With seven league games in August the matches come thick and fast. Following the home win against FC United on Saturday we travel to AFC Telford United on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7.45pm at The New Bucks Head Stadium.
Speaking after Saturday’s game Kevin Wilkin was pleased with the opening day win. “It’s a welcome 3 points and a good start,” he said. “We created lots of chances in the first half but didn’t take them. After a nervy period when we let them equalise we came back with a terrific second goal. Andy [Brown] works incredibly hard and I hope he can build a partnership with Lee [Ndlovu]. We have three decent forwards in Diggs, Andy and Lee but I still hope to bring in another striker if I can. Matt Lowe came off the bench today and had a good impact so we have other options also.”
After a difficult time last season Telford eventually finished 17th and 7 points clear of the drop. They have rung the changes with a new look squad assembled by new manager Rob Edwards, 34. The former Aston Villa, Wolves and Wales defender took over from Rob Smith in the Summer and wasted no time. Having won just twice on the road in the whole of last season The Bucks won away at York City on the opening day of the new campaign, ex-Brackley striker Matthew Barnes-Homer getting the only goal of the game.
Former Saints full-back Jordan Gough is also now in the ranks at Telford and featured in their opening day win.
