Squad update as of 2 July 2018
The first team is back in training ahead of the new season with a full schedule of pre-season games to follow starting with the visit of Northampton Town to SJP on Tuesday 10 July and MK Dons on Friday 13 July.
Kevin has been busy putting together his squad for the new campaign. Many players from last season have re-signed and several new players have joined. A number of triallists are training with the squad and further new signings are expected in the lead up to the first league games in August.
Captain Gaz Dean, Shane Byrne, Lee Ndlovu, ‘keeper Danny Lewis, Ellis Myles, Matt Lowe, Luke Graham, Connor Franklin, James Armson, Glenn Walker and Adam Walker have all signed new terms for the season to retain the core of the squad from the club’s remarkable campaign last season.
Theo Streete has joined AFC Telford United in National League North, Aaron Williams has left for full-time football at promoted Harrogate Town, Steve Diggin has joined near neighbours Banbury Town while Alex Gudger has moved to National League Solihull Moors and Jamie Lucas to Weston-Supermare in National League South.
Shep Murombedzi joined in February and has agreed a new contract for the coming season. Shep, 24, had a pro contract at Reading, played at Torquay United under Kevin Nicholson before spending two successful seasons at Solihull Moors. His debut at SJP came against Darlington and he made an immediate impact in the team, featuring regularly in league fixtures at left or right wing-back but also in midfield and getting on the score-sheet. Shep was cup-tied and so unable to play in the FA Trophy run but his comments when he signed in February were prescient: “I have not played at Wembley and have never been there. It would be quite something to go there for the first time and be part of a Wembley winning Brackley Town team.” The rest is history.
Connor Hall, 25, plays in midfield or in defence and spent the last two seasons at Biggleswade Town in the Southern League Premier Division. There he played alongside SJP favourites Jack Bowen and Greg Kaziboni. Before that Connor had spells at Bury Town and St Neots.
Gregg Smith (pictured) is well known to Saints supporters having played against Brackley for Boston United. Gregg, 28, is a striker who has also played at centre back and has signed for Kevin’s team for the forthcoming season. Gregg enjoyed two seasons at Boston having been one of Dennis Greene’s first signings in July 2016 but suffered a serious ankle injury that kept him out for six months. Previously he had spells at Spalding United, King’s Lynn Town, Grantham Town and Stamford AFC.
National League North fixtures will be released on 4 July.
