Well, well, who saw that coming? What a way to finish off the most successful season in our history. Talk about lows and highs, after the disappointment of losing the play off final last Sunday at Harrogate to the winning of the Buildbase F A Trophy against Bromley this Sunday how quickly things can change. I imagine like me everyone is still on a high after the excitement at the way we won. It could not have been scripted better. What a momentous achievement by Kevin, the players, the coaches and all the background staff, they never gave up, a credit to them all.
There is however one person, who in the background, has been responsible for most of the organisation of everything that was required to enable us to make the event run so smoothly and I would like to send thanks to Mick Hawes from everyone involved for all he has done over several weeks for pulling it all together. The hours he has put in you will not believe, many thanks Mick.
There were also lots of other people involved in making the day the success it was and I would like to thank all of those who helped whether it be selling merchandise, organising photo shoots , organising the after party, selling tickets and lots of other background issues. Thank you all for your help.
People have been talking about open top bus rides to civic dinners but I would just like to reassure everyone that at the moment we are liaising with the Town Council about this and we are trying to come up with a suitable date as a lot of the players have gone on holiday and we as a club have commitments over the summer. When a date is arranged we will be making an announcement so please bear with us.
In the meantime we believe this cup is a Community Cup for the town to embrace. We are going to get to as many people as possible to enable them to have photo shoots and carry on the feel good factor that we all have about the day. It has already been on display at the Club at our Saints Community project which went down exceedingly well. We are speaking to all the schools in Brackley and the surrounding area so that they can share opportunities to take photos or whatever they see fit.
We also hope to arrange for the cup to be on show at the training session being held on Saturday 30 June so you can take photos and when the players have finished their session they will also be around for photos.
Similarly we are making our home pre season friendlies against Northampton, MK Dons and Oxford City friendly friendlies. The cup will again be on display for those who want photos and also players will be around and about as well. I know supporters from those clubs we are playing were there to support us so we would like to thank them for their support in this way. More details will follow when arrangements have been made with Kevin and all involved. The website and twitter etc will be updated as and when opportunities arise to have photo's taken with the cup and players.
So will we be able to top this next season, I doubt it, but all I know is that whilst the League we are in gets tougher every season Kevin and his team will again give their upmost to finish as high as possible. Also we have a couple of cups that we enter so let's see where those take us. Now I know we have never reached the 3rd round of the FA Cup so that's a target possibly, now that would be something, maybe a Manchester United Chelsea Liverpool or whoever, well we can always dream as who would have thought Brackley would ever play at Wembley!!
I know the holiday season will kick in soon so everyone enjoy whatever you may be doing over the next couple of month's but spare a thought for the players who will be back in training in less than 4 weeks now.
See you all again on Tuesday 10 July 7.45 when Northampton Town are here for our first pre season friendly and the cup will be on display for photos.
