County Cup

Sunday 25th Nov 2018

Brackley continue to march on in the county cup in a game that had two contrasting halves of football from Brackley's point of view. Daventry were our opponents this afternoon, & to be honest they turned up with just 10 players & a game plan that was not to change for the whole duration. Daventry only wanted to play route one football & they weren't interested in anything else. Brackley struggled to adjust & were getting turned around at every opportunity as they were playing a ver high line & causing themselves all sorts of problems.

The midfielders were also not adjusting as they too played high & were being by passed at every opportunity. When we did have the ball we were trying to be positive but everything was very narrow & we were not trying to play football as we can. We should of been keeping the ball better, playing with patience, pulling the opposition out of shape & using the space & extra man effectively. Instead we were playing direct & just trying to force things a little bit to much. HT 0-0

The 2nd half however was so much better on all fronts, we controlled the game, we nullified the opposition & we started to open them up & make the extra man count. Rhys Allen made a terrific save just after the break though when we did get caught in possession to keep the score at 0-0, but this only made us much more sharper & quicker with our passing & finally we got our reward with some lovely passing football only for Alfie Dunn to smash one home just inside the box to give us the lead with 10 mins gone. Brackley were now playing with patience & working hard off the ball to create space & open Daventry up when Luca pounced to give us the all important cushion we were looking for 2-0. Brackley were now defending better & keeping the ball better & Daventry were beginning to tire. Alfie Dunn got his second & our third with fantastic feet beating one, then two, before going around the third to nestle home past the keeper. Brackley saw the game out & came away with the victory which they did deserve. Well done lads & good luck in the next round!!!!!
